Digital Light Meter LX801
  Lightmeter Overview

Light Meter LX801 or 1010B, measurement in lux

This is a professional light meter (also called luxmeter) to measure the light level for science fair and research projects. The digital light meter can be used to measure the light level indoors and in many outdoors locations, and to measure the brightness of lamps and flashlights. In science class light meters can be used for experiments that measure the growing speed of plants depending on light levels.

Nurseries and gardeners use this digital light meter to measure the light in greenhouses and in different plant growing areas. Hydroponics gardeners use luxmeters to measure the output of artificial lighting, such a fluorescent lamps or halide and sodium high pressure lamps in their growing areas. This light meter will also work well for LED lights.

The light meter LX801 measures in Lux only. You might find information in the unit Footcandle. A good approximation to transform measurements from Lux to Footcandle is to divide by 10:
10,000 Lux = 1,000 Footcandle (if you want to be exact you have to divide by 10.76)

Use this light meter LX 801 for these possible science fair projects:

  • Measure the light output of different lamp types
  • Measure the light intensity of a lamp depending on distance
  • Measure the light of flash lamps and LED flash lamps
  • Measure the light in differnet parts of a house

The light meter LX801 is also used by professionals to perform audits on the light levels in houses, in businesses and workplaces. A large truck manufacturer used this light meter to measure and audit light levels in their service centers, the goal was to provide optimum light levels so that the workers could perform the work well, but to avoid the cost of installing and powering too many lights.
